What is an OEM Power Supply Manufacturer?

Just about every product today requires some type of power supply. From computers to major pieces of machinery, power supplies are an incredibly important part in any piece of equipment. Depending on the type of product a company provides, they may use an OEM Power Supply Manufacturer to help meet ongoing demand.

What is an OEM?

An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) manufactures products or components that are purchased by a company and retailed under the purchasing company’s brand name. The term “OEM” refers to the company that originally manufactured the product. Some refer to OEM companies as “contract manufacturers.”

An OEM can also refer to a company that purchases a component or part manufactured by a different company for use in its own products. An OEM relies on their ability to drive down the cost of production or manufacturing through the concept of “economies of scale.” Additionally, an OEM allows the purchasing company to obtain needed components, without having to handle the cost of owning and operating a factory.

OEM Power Supply Manufacturer

There are both positives and negatives to this process. Some may worry that since the purchasing company does not own or operate the facility, that quality control could be an unknown factor. However, when a company looks for an OEM as a power supply manufacturer, they are often well vetted, so this should be of little concern. On occasion, depending on need, a company may use a variety of different power supply manufacturers to keep up with demand for their products.

There are always specifics related to production, quality control and manufacturing between the original company and the OEM power supply company. The OEM is manufacturing a product that will be marketed under the original company’s name. Therefore, the power supply manufacturer must adhere to strict guidelines regarding the complete manufacturing process and overall communication to ensure there are no issues related to the product. Power supplies must work in a safe manner to avoid overheating, sparking or even a fire. Therefore, the power supply manufacturer will work to keep a consistent manufacturing process.
